Sheriff Forbes’ cancer, though - that’s a tough one. In short, we have lived vicariously through our beloved Mystic Falls residents. We’ve cheered with triumphs and felt righteous anger over other things.

We - like our favorite characters - have rolled with the punches and adapted to whatever life has thrown at us, whether it’s a vampire or a werewolf or something else entirely. We’ve lost favorite characters and rode the roller coaster of extreme change right along with Elena and the gang.
So will season 6 be the most heartbreaking yet? It quite possibly might be. We watch to experience fantasy, but this season’s cancer plot is more terrifying than any supernatural creature - because it’s too real. So many of us have been touched by this evil in reality, but we haven’t dealt with vampires. Watching Caroline deal with her mother’s illness and impending death hits home way too much for many of us. After we watch scary movies or shows, we might cringe and feel prickles of fear when we step into the darkness, but we know deep down that there is nothing to be afraid of.Ĭancer is a different monster altogether. In real life, we don’t look over our shoulders to check for vampires, witches, or other supernatural creatures. While watching the show, we’ve been caught up in all the supernatural drama - the things we know don’t really happen. The problem with this plot twist is that it’s too real. Sheriff Forbes - Caroline’s mother - is about to lose her battle with cancer. This season, though, has a distinctly human twist that is about to turn heartbreaking. A few have come back, a few have not really died (as we discovered later) and plenty are dead already (you know - vampires are actually dead).

#The vampire diaries season 6 characters series
We started the series with death (the death of Elena and Jeremy’s parents) and up until now we’ve seen plenty of people pass. Death has been a consistent theme in The Vampire Diaries. The Vampire Diaries Season 6 spoilers discuss death and loss including why this season 6 might be the saddest ever.
